Digital Prototyping improved manufacturing standards measurably
01 May 2008
A recent study by Aberdeen Group entitiled “The Transition from 2D Drafting to 3D Modeling : Benchmark Report” demonstrated significant improvements in the manufacturing process from the use of digital prototyping. This report was underwritten in part by Autodesk (the CAD software of choice at All Metal Products) and SolidWorks ; the two largest suppliers of 3D CAD software to the manufacturing industry. From the Autodesk Website:
“Digital Prototyping gives manufacturers the ability to virtually explore a complete product before it is built—so they can create, validate, optimize, and manage designs from the conceptual design phase through the manufacturing process. By using a digital prototype, manufacturers can visualize and simulate real-world performance of the design with less reliance on physical prototypes.”
